At Genentech BioOncology, science remains the focus of our organization. Our ultimate goal is to fundamentally change the way cancer is treated and help move cancer toward a more chronic and manageable disease. Our FDA-approved products – Rituxan, Herceptin, Avastin and Tarceva - already provide new therapeutic options to hundreds of thousands of cancer patients and we are working to build upon this foundation.  As the industry leader in research and development, we are constantly looking for new breakthrough therapies to address unmet medical needs.  We invest in clinical trial programs to answer real science questions and yield definitive results.

Amgen Inc.
Why has Amgen chosen to make such a significant gift in support of the ONS Foundation’s Silver Anniversary campaign?
Amgen recognizes that oncology nurses are key members of the cancer healthcare team. Our $1.5 million contribution will help lead the initial phase of the Foundation’s launch of an important endowment campaign that will focus on three important issues that will help advance the specialty of oncology nursing. The grant will provide funding for nursing research, education and leadership programs. We believe these programs will make a difference for both the oncology nurses on the frontlines of cancer care as well as help improve patient care.

Why has Amgen consistently valued its interaction with oncology nurses?
Amgen is committed to fighting cancer in all the ways we can. We understand that the best medical care is important when battling cancer, and we value the pivotal role oncology nurses play in helping educate and guide patients through treatment. At Amgen, we are committed to helping oncology nurses deliver high quality, comprehensive cancer care for their patients.  In fact, we have developed resources for oncology nurses, including professional support and educational materials. As part of our mission to serve patients, we look forward to continued partnerships with oncology nurses.

How has Amgen contributed to improved cancer care?
Amgen products have transformed the treatment of anemia and neutropenia in people undergoing chemotherapy.  While continuing to develop supportive care therapies, we are also developing innovative targeted therapies to attack cancer itself.  Focusing on seven major areas of cancer research, the company has many targeted therapies in the pipeline directed against cancer and serious unmet needs related to cancer, such as muscle wasting disorders and bone loss induced by hormone ablation therapy.  Behind those, we have more potential oncology therapeutics in earlier stages of development.

sanofi-aventis
Why has sanofi-aventis chosen to support the ONS Foundation Silver Anniversary Campaign?

Sanofi-aventis’ work in oncology is based on one overarching dynamic: “Because Health Matters.” The Silver Anniversary Campaign exemplifies that credo, providing nurses with the training and opportunity to contribute their experience to helping patients live longer with the highest quality-of-life.  Supporting ONS initiatives is one way sanofi-aventis helps to make a difference in improving cancer care, one core ONS value shared by the company.  Both ONS and sanofi-aventis bring integrity and leadership in the fight against cancer and we share a strong commitment to upholding excellence and innovation. We are proud of our association with ONS “Because Health Matters.”

Why has sanofi-aventis consistently valued its interaction with oncology nursing?
Sanofi-aventis believes strongly in the need for a multidisciplinary team in cancer care that includes oncology nurses. Close collaboration among all members of the treatment team including medical oncologists, radiologists and surgeons as well as oncology nurses, patients and caregivers is the best approach to developing an integrated, effective treatment strategy.  Working closely with the patient from diagnosis through treatment, oncology nurses often provide “the best medicine” to patients through education. Sanofi-aventis regards the oncology nurse as a critical healthcare professional to learn from in our efforts to meet cancer patient needs for the development of effective and well-tolerated treatments.

What do you feel is sanofi-aventis' most valuable contribution to cancer care?
The spirit of courageous exploration is a driving force at sanofi-aventis. We have played a major role in developing chemotherapy drugs that remain the backbone of cancer therapy.  With our strong foundation in oncology research and development, sanofi-aventis has expertise in a range of cancer types and disease stages.  We remain committed to providing safe and effective therapeutics to help healthcare professionals provide cutting-edge patient care, and will continue to respond to ongoing challenges in the battle against cancer.
